Asia Pacific Oncology Alliance

Background

The Asia Pacific Oncology Alliance Ltd (APOA) is a not-for-profit Singapore Public Company limited by guarantee. It is an alliance of stakeholders from across the cancer continuum, comprising patients, patient groups, clinicians, academics, government officials and pharma industry representatives. APOA’s collective focus is to shift policy to deliver timely, affordable and equitable access to the best care, emerging cancer treatments and technologies to the citizens of the Asia Pacific Region

Inspiration

The formation of APOA was inspired by the successful work of the National Oncology Alliance (NOA) in Australia. The Vision 20-30 report highlighted the need for an Australian Cancer Plan that placed patients at the centre of cancer care. As a direct result of this report, the Australia government has committed to developing its first Australian Cancer Plan. This Plan completed in early 2024, provides an overarching national approach to cancer control that meets the needs of all Australians now and in the future.

Partnerships

With the experience of NOA, Rare Cancers Australia, and the work of the Pinnacle Program in the region, APOA plans to provide more tangible and practical support to patient groups across the region. This will bring together like-minded patient organisations and other relevant stakeholders to collectively make lasting policy and health system changes. We partner with other healthcare organizations and community groups to provide comprehensive and integrated care to our patients. Our partnerships allow us to offer a range of services and resources to our patients.

Patient Engagement Playbook

The 2026 agenda for APOA is to complete the Patient Engagement Playbook and to launch the Playbook and the consequent engagement program across the Asia Pacific Region. The launch will be followed up by country-by-country workshops and project plans to be rolled out in 2027 and beyond.
